Ha Noi police and forest rangers yesterday busted another case of illegal trading and transportation of wildlife at the Nam Hai restaurant in Thanh Xuan district, Ha Noi where dozens of wild animals are being kept for food.
Upon checking the restaurant, officials found a large number of wild animals being kept captive including one 2-kg lynx, 13 porcupines with total weight of 25kg, four Paguma larvatas weighing a total 9kg and other wild animals.
The restaurant owner, Nguyen Dinh Binh, claimed those animals are not rare wild ones and hence no need for any license.
On the same day, investigators from the Ha Noi Environment Police Department also found some dead crocodiles at a freezing warehouse in Thanh Xuan District, Ha Noi.
Owners of the warehouse were unable to provide any legal document to prove their rights to trade and transport the crocs. Police are conducting further investigations into the case.
In related news, the Investigation Police Agency under the Ha Noi Pubic Security Department yesterday arrested and sought indictment against Nguyen Quoc Truong and Nguyen Thuy Mui for their violations on the country’s wildlife protection laws.
The two are charged with trading in two live tigers, four frozen tigers, nine bear’s hands, two elephant’s tusks and other frozen wild animals.
