Though PM Phuc was in Thailand to attend the 35th ASEAN Summit, he immediately sent the condolences to the families after the Vietnamese Embassy in London and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed him Essex police’s initial findings that the victims may be Vietnamese.
Simultaneously, the PM directed the ministries of Public Security and Foreign Affairs sent their delegations to the United Kingdom to closely co-ordinate with the relevant authorities of UK to support the families of the Vietnamese victims, if any, to bring their loved ones home."
He also asked local administrations to share sadness and encourages relatives of tragedy victims to overcome the loss.
Before, right after knowing that the 39 victims died in the refrigerated lorry to the UK, PM Phuc had requested the Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, people committees of Nghe An and Ha Tinh to carry out investigation.
Police in the Ha Tinh province had later arrested two people in connection with the deaths after launching an investigation into suspected human trafficking of workers.
Ministries ought to send reports to the PM no later than November 5.
The Vietnamese Embassy in UK strongly condemns the inhuman activities of trafficking illegal immigrants that have caused such a tragedy for the victims and their families.
