The Viet Nam Telecommunications Authority (VNTA) under the Ministry of Information and Communications yesterday said that it has finished transferring area code for 13 cities and provinces nationwide.
As per the plan approved by Information and Communications Minister Truong Minh Tuan on November 21, 2016, the changing of area code in 59/63 cities and provinces will be divided into three phases starting on February 11, 2017 and complete on August 31, 2017.
Four northern provinces of Phu Tho, Vinh Phuc, Hoa Binh, and Ha Giang, will have their area codes unchanged as 210, 211, 218 and 219.
After changing, the area code of cities and provinces nationwide will start with number 2 and 3 (In Vietnam, a landline phone number reads as follows: (country code) (area code) (phone number). The telephone number will remain unchanged.
Apart from this, the area code of Hanoi will be 24 instead of 4, and Ho Chi Minh City, 28 instead of 8.
Below are the area code changes in the first phase including the northern province of Son La whose old area code is 22 and the new code is 212; Lai Chau with the old area code 231 and the new code 213; Lao Cai with the old code 20 and the new 214; Dien Bien with the old code 230 and the new code 215; Yen Bai with the old one 29 and the new one 216; the central province of Quang Binh with the old code 52 and the new code 232; Quang Tri with the old code 53 and the new one 233; Thua Thien – Hue having the old code 54 and the new one 234; Quang Nam having the new one 235 instead of the old code 510; the central city of Da Nang having new code 236 to replace the old code 511; Thanh Hoa having new code 237 instead of the old one 37; Nghe An having the new one 238 to replace the old one 38; and Ha Tinh having the new code 239.
The Ministry said that the new area codes will be applied for 59 cities and provinces in three phases, from February 11 to June 17 ensuring that the change will not cause confusion among the public.
