According to the Northern Power Corporation (EVNNPC), electricity had been restored to 68,259 of the 125,003 customers affected by typhoon Narra and flooding, equivalent to 54.61 percent. Some 56,744 customers remained without power.
As of 7 a.m. on August 24, EVNNPC had restored 17 of the 38 affected medium-voltage power lines and 429 of the 712 affected substations.
In Quang Ninh Province, electricity had been fully restored to all affected customers.
Power outages remained in several localities, including 30,568 customers in Bac Ninh, 25,538 in Lang Son, 488 in Hai Phong and 150 in Thai Nguyen.
Several areas in Lang Son, Bac Ninh and Hai Phong remained deeply flooded, with water levels exceeding three meters in some parts of Lang Son. As a result, some power lines and substations had to remain temporarily out of service.
Electricity companies are maintaining 24-hour standby operations and will restore power as soon as safety conditions permit.
Also on the morning of August 24, the Department of Dyke Management and Disaster Prevention and Control reported that the water level on the Ky Cung River in Lang Son stood at 256.48 meters at 7 a.m., or 0.48 meters above Level 3 flood alert. The river had peaked at 256.71 meters at 11 p.m. on August 23.
The Luc Nam River at Chu in Bac Ninh was at 14.03 meters, 1.02 meters above Level 3 flood alert, while the Thuong River at Phu Lang Thuong in Bac Ninh stood at 6.54 meters, 0.24 meters above Level 3.
Over the next six to 12 hours, flooding on the lower reaches of the Luc Nam and Thuong rivers is forecast to continue rising and remain above Level 3. The Ky Cung River is expected to recede but remain above Level 3.
Reports from the Northeastern localities as of the morning of August 24 showed that 457 houses had been damaged or had their roofs blown off, while another 3,678 houses had been inundated.
Flooding and other impacts damaged 10,585 hectares of rice and 9,206 hectares of other crops.
Authorities have also dealt with 1,023 landslide and inundation sites that disrupted traffic.
All of these figures have increased significantly compared with the previous report issued on August 23.
