The statement was made by Minister Mai Tien Dung, chairman of the Government Office on Tuesday on the sideline of the National Assembly’s session.
According to Mr. Dung, the airport has been heavily overloaded with the number of visitors increasing 30 percent a year. Therefore, the priority target now is to enlarge the airport.
So far, the Government has no idea that where the third runway will be built and the location will be chosen according to the consultants’ reports, he affirmed.
Replying to press queries that why the Prime Minister did not instruct to hire foreign consultants sooner than June 12 and if the instruction started from public opinions’ pressure, Mr. Dung said that was an information channel for the Government to consider and make decision about the airport’s broadening besides many other channels such as National Assembly deputies and voters nationwide.
In addition, HCMC Party Committee secretary Nguyen Thien Nhan has recently sent a letter to the Prime Minister about the airport’s expansion.
