The Environment Police Agency (PC49) under the Police Department in the southern province of Binh Phuoc yesterday said that they had worked with relevant agencies to investigate a Taiwanese firm’s indiscriminate throw of hundreds of dead pigs in the upper reaches of the Saigon River.
According to the agency, Viet Phuoc Agricultural Company whose legal representative is Taiwanese national Li Kuo Hui has admitted the dead pig dump in the area, Hon Quan district.
A representative of Viet Phuoc said that the company rears 27,000 pigs and over ten die at stampede everyday. Recently, its incinerator has failed so the company asked their workers to throw the dead pigs into the environment.
The police agency has issued fine, required the company to stop dumping dead pigs into the environment and signed contract with functional establishments to handle them until its incinerator is repaired.
Police officers have also taken samples of the farm’s treated wastewater and Saigon river water to estimate the company’s discharge into the river and find if there is any connection between that to the fish death in the area on July 6.
