Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index unexpectedly rebounded the first time in six days to close week on high note on June 15 as investors combed shares on speculation that values were attractively low.
The measure which tracks 303 companies and five mutual funds listed on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange recovered 1.84 percent, or 7.81 points, to close at 433.09 points.
Across the benchmark, 176 stocks advanced, 80 retreated, and 52 remained unchanged.
Trading on the city bourse improved by nearly 55 percent in volume, and 71 percent in value over the previous trading session as more than 72.64 million shares changed hands at a total value of VND1.31 trillion.
Saigon Thuong Tin Joint Stock Commercial Bank or Sacombank (STB) was most active share in volume for five straight trading sessions with 12.59 million shares changing hands.
Refrigeration Electrical Engineering Corporation (REE) was at second place for second day with 5.46 million shares.
Tan Tao Investment Industrial Joint Stock Company (ITA) took the third place with 2.84 million shares traded.
Nam Kim Steel Joint Stock Company (NKG) salvaged 5 percent to close at VND16,800. The company agreed to issue 15 million shares to increase its chartered capital to VND449 billion from VND299 billion.
PetroVietnam Drilling & Well Services Corporation (PVD) soared 4.97 percent to close at VND35,900.
Saigon Beer Transportation Joint Stock Company (SBC) regained 4.96 percent to close at VND12,700.
Vinh Long Cereal and Food Corporation (VLF) nosedived 17.33 percent to close at VND12,400. The company will pay dividends for the year 2011 in cash at a ratio of 10 percent and by shares at a ratio of 20:3 since July 5.
COMA 18 Joint Stock Company (CIG) plunged for four consecutive trading sessions, giving up 5 percent to close at VND3,800.
Tien Giang Investment and Construction Joint Stock Company (THG) stumbled 4.97 percent to close at VND15,300.
The VN30 Index - a free-float adjusted, market cap-weighted index of 30 stocks with the highest market value and liquidity on the exchange – reclaimed 7.7 points, or 1.54 percent, to end at 507.94. Among its 30 members, 23 stocks went up, and 7 moved backwards.
Hanoi’s HNX-Index of the smaller bourse in the north revived 0.81 percent, or 0.6 points, to close at 74.84 points with 196 winners, 51 losers, and 56 stocks stalling. Around 53.86 million shares changed hands at a total value of VND564.08 billion.
Meanwhile, the UPCoM-Index of unlisted shares recouped 0.75 percent, or 0.27 points, to close at 36.48 points. A total of 592,971 shares changed hands at VND13.83 billion.
