Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index retreated the second day on March 7 as several blue-chip stocks continued to fall on the city bourse while investors sold shares to lock in gains.
The gauge of 303 companies and five mutual funds listed on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange defeated 0.22 per cent, or 0.98 points, to close at 444.02 points, with 134 gainers, 106 losers, and 68 stocks remaining unchanged.
More than 101.25 million shares changed hands at a total value of VND1.42 trillion on the city bourse today, down 34 per cent in both volume and value over the previous day.
Military Commercial Joint Stock Bank (MBB) was the most active share in volume with 9.63 million shares changing hands.
The fifth largest listed lender Vietnam Commercial Joint Stock Export Import Bank or Eximbank (EIB) took second rank with 9.32 million shares.
Sacombank Securities Joint Stock Company (SBS) came in third with 4.59 million shares traded.
Pomina Steel Corporation (POM) stumbled 11.69 per cent to close at VND13,600.
Basa Joint Stock Company (BAS) slashed 8.33 per cent to close at VND1,100.
Other losers were Hoa Binh Rubber Joint Stock Company (HRC), Transforwarding Warehousing Corporation Ho Chi Minh City (TMS), Duyen Hai Multi Modal Transport Joint Stock Company (TCO), and Saigon Telecommunication & Technologies Corporation (SGT). They all slumped 5 per cent to close at VND41,800, VND26,600, VND9,500, and VND5,700 respectively.
Viky Plastic Joint Stock Company (VKP) surged 14.29 per cent to close at VND800.
Cadovimex Seafood Import-Export & Processing Joint Stock Company (CAD) soared 10 per cent to close at VND1,100.
Saigon Beverage Joint Stock Company (TRI) mounted 5.56 per cent to close at VND1,900.
The VN30 Index - a free-float adjusted, market cap-weighted index of 30 stocks with the highest market value and liquidity on the exchange - lost 2.51 points, or 0.49 per cent, to end at 505.9. Among its 30 members, 19 stocks gained, 8 retreated, and 3 closed unmoved.
Hanoi’s HNX-Index of the smaller bourse in the north trimmed 0.23 per cent, or 0.17 points, to close at 75.03 points with 108 winners, 215 losers, and 31 stocks treaded water. Around 118.1 million shares changed hands at a total value of VND1.05 trillion.
Meanwhile, the UPCoM-Index of unlisted shares fell 0.57 per cent, or 0.2 points, to close at 34.88 points. A total of 247,640 shares changed hands at VND1.45 billion.
