The event is aiming to enhance the strategic partnership with Singapore and Indonesia. Besides that, the three South-East Asian countries are active member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and Vietnam will become the rotary chair of ASEAN in 2020.
Therefore, the positive relationship between Ho Chi Minh City, Singapore and Indonesia will contribute to deepening the relationship between the three countries in particular and member states of ASEAN in general.
Singapore is a leading foreign investor in Vietnam and the second largest trading partner of Ho Chi Minh City for many consecutive years. Within the visit framework, the city leaders will discuss the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in the fields of urban planning, education and training, aiming to promote extensive cooperation between Ho Chi Minh City and Singapore in these sectors.
In particular, the MOU cooperation in creative urban planning, improving the urban landscape and environment, building financial solutions for urban and social house developments aims to bring the city’s high-quality urban development meeting international planning.
Education and human resources training cooperation with Singapore aims to raise the educational standard of HCMC to meet the international standard, to standardize knowledge of senior managers at all levels, to build a study program with international standards at university and to promote the construction of shared laboratories in the artificial intelligence, information technology, data science, automation, finance, etc.
Ho Chi Minh City is also willing to establish a cooperation mechanism with Singapore's public and private partners and to invite the partners to consult, invest and build in the market. The two sides exchanged measures to enhance innovation cooperation via building a common startup space, a shared laboratory, training and using human resources, strengthening cooperation between universities and research centers.
As plan, the city Party Chief will meet senior leaders and businesses of Singapore, visit research facilities and start-up centers.
Meanwhile, the Vietnam - Indonesia strategic partnership has been developing strongly in the fields of politics, economics, education, culture and society. The nations co-signed an action plan for the strategic partnership 2019-2023 and a joint statement on security agenda.
Currently, Indonesia is the 34th largest foreign investor of Ho Chi Minh City.
The purpose of visit is to learn about development strategy in the period of industrial revolution 4.0, to exchange experiences on startup supports.
On the event, the parties also shared their experiences in urban and transport planning, climate change adaptation.
