The requirement was made in a document sent from the Government Office recently after the public expressed concern over higher than normal power price and bills.

Explaining the unusual electricity bill increase, Vietnam Electricity (EVN) said that March had more days than February while power consumption demand highly increased because of heat waves. Moreover, retail electricity price has hiked 8.36 percent on average since March 20. However, the public has not agreed with the group’s explanation.

Statistics on electricity bills of households in Hanoi and HCMC show that 57 percent of customers in Hanoi and 47 percent of customers in HCMC saw power consumption in April increase more than 30 percent compared to the previous month as of April 26.
