Late President Ho Chi Minh was an example of virtue, national pride, wisdom, and a great source of encouragement for Vietnamese generations, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong said yesterday.
Trong made the remark while addressing a ceremony held in Ha Noi to mark the 125th birthday anniversary of the late President Ho Chi Minh.
In reviewing the life and career of the nation's first president, the Party leader focused on how, under his leadership, Viet Nam's revolution overcame numerous challenges. Ho Chi Minh left a large, valuable legacy and led by example, highlighting self-improvement and responsibility to be emulated by all Vietnamese people.
The former leader devoted all his life to the revolutionary cause of the party and the nation, and gave his all in serving Viet Nam and its people until he took his final breath in 1969, said Trong.
Earlier yesterday, a delegation of the Party, State, National Assembly and the Viet Nam Fatherland Front laid wreaths at President Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum.
The delegation included Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, President Truong Tan Sang, National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and President of the Viet Nam Fatherland Front Central Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan.
The national leaders expressed their respect and gratitude to Uncle Ho, who founded and trained the Vietnam Communist Party, for his great contribution to the nation's revolution.
The delegation also laid floral tributes at the Monument to Fallen Soldiers.
President Ho Chi Minh was born on May 19, 1890 in Kim Lien Commune, Nam Dan District, the central province Nghe An. He devoted his life to the national liberation cause and tirelessly strove for peace and progress in the world. He led the nation to success in the struggle for national independence and establishing the Democratic Republic of Viet Nam following the August Revolution in 1945.
The president passed away in 1969.
