Hanoi’s propaganda committee, police and People’s Committee of District Long Bien concluded at a meeting on August 19 about the child trafficking in Bo De Pagoda. Accordingly, there has been no evidence that chief monk Thich Dam Lan was involved in this case .
Police representative said that Bo De Pagoda facilities have failed to provide decent living conditions to orphaned, abandoned or disabled children and the elderly.
Caretakers are not adequately trained to take care of children and pagoda managers are not skilled in managing, said Police.
Accordingly, evil-minded persons take advantaged of these loopholes to earn profit. Last couple weeks, Nguyen Thi Thanh Trang, a caretaker at Bo De Pagoda, was prosecuted by the police for selling a baby who was raised at the pagoda.
Colonel Nguyen Duy Ngoc, deputy director of the Ha Noi Police, said at the meeting that a police investigation revealed three old people and three children were transferred to a social sponsorship center, thirteen had been returned to their families, one had been adopted by a family with approval of local government and one is being raised in other pagoda.
Police confirmed that infant Cu Nguyen Cong who was adopted by a man in Hanoi had died in the Central Pediatrics Hospital in the capital city in late June.
Police are carrying out investigation to 24 other cases.
