Dr. Duong Quang Trung, former Director of the City Health Department, passed away on June 22 in Ho Chi Minh City.
Dr. Trung was born in 1928 in An Xuyen Commune in Ca Mau Province. His father was a Confucian scholar and his mother was a midwife.
He was founder of the Heart Institute in Ho Chi Minh City and held the office of Director of the Health Department.
Dr. Trung made great contributions in the field of medicine and founded many professional hospitals such as Pham Ngoc Thach Hospital, HCMC Eye Hospital, HCMC Blood Transfusion and Hematology Hospital and the Ho Chi Minh City Oncological Hospital.
He received the Doctor of Philosophy of Medicine Degree in France in 1958 and later became a thoracic surgeon at the National Academy of French Surgery.
The funeral service of Doctor Duong Quang Trung was held at 25 Le Quy Don Street in District 3 at 7am on June 26.
The ceremony was attended by State leaders such as President Truong Tan Sang; Le Thanh Hai, Secretary of the Party Committee of Ho Chi Minh City; and Nguyen Thi Kim Tien, Minister of Health.
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung; Nguyen Minh Triet, former President of Vietnam; and family of late Prime Minister Vo Van Kiet sent condolence wreaths.
The burial ceremony of Doctor Duong Quang Trung will be held at the Ho Chi Minh Cemetery in Thu Duc District.
