According to ACV, in order to meet cargo transfer and travelling demand of visitors to the locality, the Na San airport needed to invest a runway up to 2,6000 meters long and 45 meters wide to serve A320 / A321 planes and military aircrafts.
Additionally, a passenger terminal with a total area of 8,365 square meters and the capacity of one million passengers per year is expected to be built in the airport.
Vietnam Airport Corporation proposed three options. Firstly, ACV will invest totally in the construction project during 37 months. Secondly, ACV will invest in aviation zone while the People’s Committee of Son La province will invest in runway, taxiway and parking lot before assigning ACV to exploit. The third option is mobilizing capital source of socialization in the form of public-private partnerships.
Earlier, Na San airport was closed in 2004 due to infrastructure system degradation.
In the planning of the Ministry of Transport, Na San is a trade airport in combination with military cooperation with capacity of 0.9 million passengers a year in 2020.
