The inspections are aimed at improving the State’s management of land, environment, natural resources and hydrometeorology in relation to hydropower projects.

The ministry will establish three inspection teams before May 30.

The inspection teams will complete inspections in Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Kon Tum, Gia Lai, Dak Lak, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Dac Nong and Lam Dong Provinces by October 30.

The teams will also complete inspections of hydropower projects in Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien-Hue, Da Nang, Binh Phuoc, Binh Duong, Dong Nai, Binh Thuan, Ninh Thuan and Khanh Hoa Provinces by December 10.

A representative of the ministry said that all large hydropower plants must be inspected carefully to ensure future safety.

Hydropower projects have contributed to the country’s social development, but we must put human safety above everything else. The contractor must report in detail whether any problems have occurred in the construction stage so that proper remedies can be implemented, said the representative.

Inspectors will issue strict penalties on those violating regulations.
