The project aims at railway infrastructure and service quality which are keys for improved passenger satisfaction.
According to the Ministry, a traveler usually spends 25 percent on transportation of the trip cost; however, total railway sale accounts for 0.53 percent of the tourist sector.
Accordingly, the Ministry proposed the government to supplement VND500 - VND1 trillion (US$21.6 million - $43.3 million) a year for railway maintenance. Moreover, VND7 trillion will be used for upgrade of Hanoi-Ho Chi Minh City railway to increase train fleets from 17 to 25.
Additionally, an amount of VND 2,600 billion will be used for improvement of Yen Vien- Lao Cai route.
Last but not least, the Ministry proposed the Vietnam Railway to combine social contributions and state budget to restore the track from Da Lat City to Trai Mat Station as well as gradually convert railway stations into commercial centers and tourist agents.
Furthermore, around VND1 trillion will be used for buying more carriages to meet demand.
The Transport Ministry also proposed other ministries to give opinions to complete projects to attain the goal of 300,000 – 450,000 passengers a year by 2025.
