Thousands of inhabitants in Ben Tre and Kien Giang are suffering from scarcity of safe drinking water and daily activities.
Specifically, Long My district in Hau Giang province has reported salinity intrusion with level of 1.4 percent.
According to weather forecasters, heat wave hit the South Vietnam from March to May, consequently, salinity intrusion will be more complex and serious in the coming time.
It is forecast that this year salinity intrusion will be worse than that in 2018, making detrimental impact on production and locals’ daily activities.
Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development in Hau Giang Tran Chi Hung warned of the complexity of salinity, advising people to prepare water containers for daily activities as well as reinforcement of embankments, dredging canals for production.
Moreover, farmers should visit their farmland and listen to weather news to actively cope with the situation.
Hau Giang province’s agriculture department has sent its men to monitor irrigation system and lock the river door to prevent saltwater intrusion.
