Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index ceased its three-day winning streak, slightly sliding on May 12 as investors sold to take profits from previous gains amid a lackluster market weighed by weak cash flow.
The shares of 284 companies and five mutual funds listed on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange shed 0.21 percent, or 1.01 points, to close at 482.14 points.
On the city bourse, losers doubled gainers as 65 advanced, 126 declined, while 98 remained unchanged.
Trading volume on the city bourse changed a little over the previous trading session as 22 million shares changed hands at a value of VND530 billion.
Saigon Thuong Tin Joint Stock Commercial Bank or Sacombank (STB) continued staying at the position of most active share in volume with 1.22 million shares changing hands.
It was followed by Vietnam Commercial Joint Stock Export Import Bank or Eximbank (EIB) with 1.15 million shares traded.
Saigon Securities Inc. (SSI), the country’s largest brokerage, ranked third with 710,280 shares changing hands.
Sea & Air Freight International (SFI) tumbled for three consecutive days, plunging 10.07 percent to VND13,400. The company will pay dividends for the year 2010 to its current shareholders at a ratio of 15 percent in cash on May 26.
Hang Xanh Motors Service Joint Stock Company (HAX) tripped 4.96 percent to close at VND11,500.
Khang Dien Investment & Trading House Joint Stock Company (KDH) declined 4.94 percent to VND40,400.
Thac Mo Hydro Power Joint Stock Company (TMP) and Saigon Beverages Join Stock Company (TRI) both rebounded 5 percent to VND10,500 and VND4,200 respectively.
Tien Len Steel Group Joint Stock Company (TLH) grew 4.94 percent to close at VND8,500.
Hung Vuong Joint Stock Corporation (HVG) climbed for three straight days, gaining 4.88 percent to VND17,200.
The Hanoi’s HNX-Index of the smaller in the north continued contracting 0.46 percent, or 0.38 points, to close at 82.33 points. Trading volume slightly improved over the previous trading session as 20.2 million shares worth VND254.79 billion changed hands.
Meanwhile, the UPCoM-Index of unlisted shares weakened 0.65 points to 34.56 points this morning. A total of 60,800 shares changed hands at a value of VND550 million as of 11:10 am local time.
