Quang Tri province is home to 72 war martyrs’ cemeteries with more than 60,000 graves, including the largest national cemeteries of Truong Son National Martyrs' Cemetery and the Road 9 National Martyrs’ Cemetery.
Truong Son National Martyrs' Cemetery covering on an area of nearly 40 hectares is the resting place of over 10,000 martyrs; while the Road 9 National Martyrs’ Cemetery which is 13 hectares is designed for more than 10,500 martyrs.
More than 328,000 tonnes of explosives were used in Quang Tri town in 1972 during the war against the US. The province was also well known for the fierce 81-day-and-night battle at the ancient Quang Tri Citadel.
Every year, the province receives a large number of visitors, martyrs’ relatives, leaders of the Party and State, and international friends to visit and pay tribute to the martyrs in honor of the tradition.
