Large-cap stocks keep Vietnam’s benchmark in green

The Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index wrapped week with a slight rise on July 8 as blue-chip stocks continued to buoy the market.

The shares of 289 companies and five mutual funds listed on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange closed up 0.08 percent, or 0.33 points, to close at 430.32 points.

Among the index members, 65 strengthened, 120 tumbled, while 109 remained unchanged.

Trading on the city bourse declined by 14 percent in volume and 29 percent in value over the previous trading session as 20.1 million shares changed hands at a value of VND330 billion.

Saigon Thuong Tin Joint Stock Commercial Bank or Sacombank (STB) topped the list of most active shares in volume with 1.82 million shares changing hands.

International Development & Investment Corporation (IDI) followed with 1.25 million shares traded.

Ho Chi Minh City-based Refrigeration Electrical Engineering Corporation (REE) came next with 864,020 shares.

Food producer Masan Group (MSN) fortified 4.95 percent to close at VND106,000.

Stationeries producer Thien Long Group Corporation (TLG) leaped forward 4.91 percent to VND23,500.

Saigon Fuel Joint Stock Company (SFC) curbed its three-day losing streak, recovering 4.8 percent to close at VND26,200.

Viet - Han Corporation (VHG) nose-dived 11.9 percent to VND7,400. The company will pay dividends for the year 2010 to its current shareholders in cash at a ratio of 9 percent on August 1.

TMT Automobile Joint StockCompany (TMT) and Viet Thang Feed Joint Stock Company (VTF) both crashed 5 percent to VND7,600, and VND15,200 respectively.

Savimex Corporation (SAV) plunged 4.91 percent to close at VND25,200.

Meanwhile, the Hanoi’s HNX-Index of the smaller in the north continued to make a contrast move, sliding 0.27 percent, or 0.2 points, to finish at 72.84 points. Trading on the northern market gained by 18 percent in volume and 14 percent in value over the previous trading session as 19.7 million shares changed hands at VND216 billion.

The UPCoM-Index of unlisted shares plummeted 0.37 points, or 1.13 percent, to 32.47 points. A total of 132,510 shares changed hands at a value of VND1.04 billion today.
