Pham Phuong Thao, Chairwoman of Ho Chi Minh City People’s Council warmly welcomed a delegation of Indian parliamentarians led by Meira Kumar, Chairwoman of India’s lower house of parliament, to the city on May 14.
At a meeting, Chairwoman Thao stressed that Vietnam would continue to boost strategic cooperation between Vietnam and India. She highly appreciated India’s development and growth after the recession.
Chairwoman Meira Kumar said that the effective bilateral cooperation with India in many areas is an important step to expand cooperation with other Asian countries, especially the ASEAN member countries.
The ‘Lok Sabha’ Chairwoman said she admired Vietnam’s efforts for national reconstruction and development, especially towards poverty reduction. She affirmed that as an ASEAN member Vietnam would always be a top priority in India’s “Look East” policy, especially with its present strong and developing economy.
During her stay in HCM City from May 14-15, the ‘Lok Sabha’ Chairwoman will meet with representatives of the Indian Business Association and the Indian community in the city. She will also visit the Vietnam History Museum, the War Remnants Museum and the Thong Nhat Conference Hall.
