Ho Chi Minh City on August 25 held a flower-laying ceremony in memory of President Ho Chi Minh and opened its 19th summer camp for overseas Vietnamese youth and local young people, themed Tu hao thanh pho mang ten Bac (Proud of the City named after Uncle Ho).
The ceremony was held at the President Ho Chi Minh Monument Park in Saigon Ward, Ho Chi Minh City. In a solemn atmosphere, officials and camp participants respectfully laid flowers in tribute to President Ho Chi Minh, the national liberation hero, outstanding leader of the Party and people, and eminent cultural figures of the country.
This year’s summer camp runs from Aug. 25 to 29 and brings together 50 Vietnamese youth living overseas and Vietnamese students studying abroad who were recommended by Vietnamese diplomatic missions overseas. They represent the young global Vietnamese community from 17 countries and territories.
As part of the camp, participants will take part in a range of meaningful activities, including offering incense in tribute at Nga Ba Giong National Historical Site, laying flowers and offering incense and learning about the search for and collection of fallen soldiers’ remains at Le Thi Rieng Park, meeting with the Ho Chi Minh City Resistance War Veterans Traditional Club to learn about revolutionary traditions.
Moreover, they also paid a visit to Con Dao Museum and Phu Hai Prison to learn more about the country's history, lit candles in tribute at Hang Duong Cemetery while presenting gifts to former political prisoners and families with contributions to the revolution in Con Dao. Last but not least, they took part in volunteer activities at Que Huong Humanitarian Center in Di An Ward.
According to Truong Van Thoi, deputy chief of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Office, the camp provides an opportunity for participants to meet, interact and learn from one another while developing their skills through the series of activities.
