Phan Van Liem, 71, from Quang Lap Commune in Don Duong District was hospitalized on August 13 for high fever and respiratory disorder.

The Center for Preventive Medicine in the province sent his medical samples to the Pasteur Institute, which reported positive for the fatal virus.

In related news, in response to a program launched by Vietnam Association of the Elderly, the Department of Health in Kon Tum Province in the Central Highlands has coordinated with the Eye Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City to performed free eye surgeries on 315 people.
