HCMC leaders extend Christmas greetings to Catholics

A delegation of HCMC officials led by Secretary of the Party Central Committee and Secretary of the HCMC Party Committee, Nguyen Van Nen on December 21 paid a visit to the Headquarter of the HCMC Archdiocese on the occasion of Christmas 2020 and New Year 2021.
On behalf of the leaders and people of HCMC, Mr. Nguyen Van Nen extended greetings to Archbishop of the Archdiocese of HCMC, Nguyen Nang and Assistant to the Bishop, Nguyen Anh Tuan.
He highlighted the contributions made by the municipal archdiocese and followers to the city’s development, especially the solidarity in the fight against COVID-19, ensuring social security, supporting natural disaster victims.
He hoped that Archbishop, Catholic dignitaries and followers will continue to implement prevention and control measures to reduce the spread of infectious disease; build HCMC into a modern, civilized, dynamic, creative and humane city; contribute to the improving the quality of life of residents in the city; and implement resolutions of the 11th Congress of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee.
On this occasion, Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee, Ngo Minh Chau handed over infrastructures to parishes of Tan Lap, Cong Thanh in District 2; Tan My and Tan Hiep in Hoc Mon District; Binh An in District 8.
Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Ho Chi Minh City Nguyen Nang expressed his joy with the city’ achivements in preventing the spread of COVID-19 outbreak.
He thanked to the city’s leaders for their special attention and assistance to activities of Archdiocese of HCMC, especially the handover of infrastructures to meet the demand of public spaces for activities of the Catholic parishes across the city.
Archbishop Nguyen Nang confirmed that he would continue to guide parishioners to actively participate in emulation and charity movements, contributing in nation-building.
On the same day, member of the Central Committee of the Party, Standing Deputy Secretary of the HCMC Party Committee, Tran Luu Quang and municipal leaders on December 21 visited and extend Christmas greetings to Catholic dignitaries and followers in the city ahead of the Christmas holiday 2020 and New Year 2021.
Priest Ho Van Xuan, representative of the Archdiocese of HCMC thanked the local authorities for the visit. He said that the restoration project of the city’s Notre Dame Cathedral which is expected to be finished in December might run few months behind schedule due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
On behalf of the leaders and people of HCMC, Mr. Tran Luu Quang wished priest Ho Van Xuan good health and happy mind to complete the restoration project of the Cathedral. He committed that the municipal government will readily give assistance to solve problems in restoring the church.
The delegation also paid visits to Cardinal Pham Minh Man, former Archbishop of HCMC Archdiocese; and Father Dao Nguyen Vu, head of the office of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Vietnam in HCMC.
