Mr. Nhan made the statement at a yesterday conference to review 15 –year implementation of the ninth National Assembly’s Party Central Committee’s fifth resolution of continuous development and improvement of cooperative economy.
Additionally, Secretary Nhan directed to continue completing policies on capital, science and technology, land use to improve cooperative economy’s quality plus cooperative projects and models for submission no later than December, 2019.
City leaders will assess the changes in cooperative quality and what’s barriers for cooperative development after reading projects. From which, city will produce favorable condition for the development of new-style cooperatives in the field of agriculture, traditional markets and transport.
Delivering speech at the conference, Deputy Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Le Thanh Liem affirmed there have been significant changes in cooperative activities which offer more employment and improve members’ income and services to meet society demand.
After 15 years of carrying out the resolution, the number of new-style cooperatives has increased from 1,109 to 2,097 in different fields including 526 cooperatives in commercial- service, industry-cottage industry, transport, and environment sanitation. The number of members working in cooperative has risen from 38,156 to 58,654.
Scale and membership of cooperatives have been expanded and cooperatives have connected to raise capital and attracted laborers. Some even opened outlets across the country and foreign countries.
However, many cooperatives have no strategies in business and not exploit its potential because leaders are not fully aware of important role of cooperatives and cooperative economy in the socialist-oriented market economy, a multi-sectoral market economy where the state sector plays the decisive role in directing economic development, with the eventual long-term goal of developing socialism.
Mr. Nhan remarked that agricultural cooperatives have developed quite well with the increase in the number of cooperatives and cooperative farmers’ income has risen.
Household business should join in cooperative to improve their income, said Party Chief Nhan. Without cooperatives, the government hardly re-structure the agriculture sector and the government’s new rural plan will run into trouble, Mr. Nhan emphasized.
