Mr. Hue stressed all makeshift residences of families whose relatives served in the country’s revolution must be replaced with brick houses by the end of the year.
At present, still 16,500 poor households are people taking part in the national independence and reunification.
Co-presiding a meeting to prepare for the charity program “Joining hands for the poor” which will be held on October 17 in response to Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc’s appeal to leave nobody behind, Mr. Hue Mr. Hue made the statement.
Deputy Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee Hau A Lenh said residents countrywide contributed nearly VND945 billion (US$40.7 million) to the 2018 program for the poor .
The central Fund for the Poor has allocated VND15 billion to gift disadvantaged households while VND3.48 billion for building houses in 13 provinces and VND1.86 billion for supporting students from low-income families and ill needy patients.
Meantime, local funds for the poor have been used to build and repair over 18,600 houses for impoverished households across the country as well as to aid 105,000 poor households in their production business, to provide scholarships to 350,000 underprivileged children and to construct 850 bridges, schools and medical centers.
Chairman of VFF Tran Thanh Man said the program for the poor proves that its effects have spread amongst all walks of life, having a deep sense of humanity and social security to manifest our country’s moral tradition the intact leaves protect tattered ones, contributing to helping the poor escape from poverty”
Minister of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs Dao Ngo Dung said the country had 1.3 million poor making up 5.23 percent and 1.2 million near-poor households accounting got 4.95 percent of the total.
Currently, the northern provinces of Dien Bien, Cao Bang and Ha Giang have poor household percentage of over 30; accordingly, he proposed using VND40 billion left over from the central Fund for the poor 2018 to build and fix 1,000 charity houses to bring happiness to penniless people in Tet holiday (the Lunar New Year)
Noticeably, Mr. Dung said that of 900,000 blind and 1.1 million deaf people currently, about 400,000 have fallen into chronic poverty. Two enterprises have offered to provide free smart phones for deaf and visually impaired people equipped with software to make them easier to use.
Deputy PM Hue lauded the program for the poor and charitable activities which have been inspiring the love for other in everyday work.
He asked the Ministry of Labor, Invalid and Social Affairs to consider the feasibility of IT support for deaf and blind people to implement it.
He also agreed to launch the fundraising text message campaign for the program earlier than usual, on August 19 instead of October 1 as previously planned to receive more donations.
