Under the document, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and inspectors must quickly destroy the pigs found to be sedated prior to slaughtering last week, instead of keeping them until the drug completely excretes from their bodies for food safety reason.
Additionally, the Department and the food safety management board in HCMC have to publicize the names of 13 merchants who were also caught in the act of injecting pigs with the sedative solution right before having them slaughtered.
Furthermore, they must adopt measures to control pork meat from merchants into the city in the future.
When it comes to penalties, the Department must issue proper penalties on dishonest merchants and halt operation of Xuyen A slaughterhouse to re-organize as per the city's new guideline.
The Department of Justice should propose added harsh penalties for such act. The Department of Industry and Trade has to adopt measures to stabilize the market to prevent scarcity of pork leading to raise price of the meat.
In a talk with Sai Gon Giai Phong's reporter, head of the food safety management board Pham Khanh Phong Lan affirmed to protect consumers’ health, destroying all the pigs is the best way.
