An excessively heavy downpour lasting more than three hours, during peak hours yesterday afternoon, completely inundated several streets across Ho Chi Minh City, causing severe traffic congestion.

Do Tan Long from the Center for Flood Prevention stated that the worst affected streets were Ba Hom, Phan Anh and Tan Hoa Dong in District 6, Kinh Duong Vuong and Tran Dai Nghia in Binh Tan District, Huynh Tan Phat in District 7, 3 Tháng 2 in District 10 and Tran Phu – Tran Hung Dao crossroad in District 2. Most of the streets were submerged under 10-30cm of water.
Some roads in the Binh Thanh District like Nguyen Huu Canh, Xo Viet Nghe Tinh and Dinh Bo Linh were also submerged under water.
All the above streets are in low-lying areas where the drainage system is heavily overloaded or blocked in places and unable to cope with the massive deluge of rainwater.
