According to the Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning Center and Institute of Geophysics, a 3.5-magnitude earthquake occurred in the mountainous A Luoi district of Thua Thien Hue province at 3:23 pm yesterday.
The large sized earthquake centered at 16,218 degrees north latitude and 107,345 east longitude with its epicenter location at 7 kilometers deep underground.
The center said nearly 20 small- medium sized earthquakes had ever appeared in A Luoi district since May, 2014. Of these, the most powerful earthquake recorded at 4.7 on the richter magnitude scale on May 15, 2014.
Chairman of the People’s Committee of A Luoi district Nguyen Manh Hung said that local people has spent an anxious couple of days for the recent consecutive earthquakes as the A Luoi Hydropower Plant poured water into reservoirs to generate power.
On the same day, Thua Thien- Hue province Natural Disaster Prevention, Search and Recue Steering Committee, the Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning Center and Institute of Geophysics summarized that nearly 20 earthquakes had recorded 2.5- 4.7 on the richter scale in Thua Thien- Hue province since 2014 to 2016.
In December, 2015, four earthquakes consecutively experienced in A Luoi district and its neighboring area of Huong Tra commune with 2.5- 2.9 on the richter scale.
However, the earthquakes did not mostly cause any loss of life.
