Bien Hoa Airbase area in the southern province of Dong Nai is a hot spot having the highest levels of dioxin contamination in the country.
The dioxin cleanup project wil help reduce the risk of dioxin exposure for people living in this area. The project costs US$390 million and is expected to complete in 10 years.
The U.S. committed to coopearte with the Vietnamese Defence Ministry to solve all relics of war in Vietnam as well as strengthen economic, cultural and security relations between the two countries.
The US has cooperated with Vietnam in solving humanitarian issues and war legacies since 2000, including removing unexploded materials, identifying remains of missing soldiers and implementing the environmental remediation of dioxin contamination.
USAID and the Vietnamese Defence Ministry will also complete the six-year project on dioxin decontamination valued at US$110 million at Da Nang Aiport.
