Before, on April 24, a train crashed into a seven-seater car at a rail crossing in a residential area in Canh An 2 village in the central province of Binh Dinh’s Tuy Phuoc District. The accident claimed four deaths and two injuries
Based on the National Traffic Safety Committee’s report, Deputy PM Binh requested that People’s Committee in Binh Dinh province and related agencies quickly carried out an investigation of the incident to verify the cause and the responsibility of agencies and involved individuals to issue harsh penalties as per the nation’s law.
He also asked the Committee and the Ministry of Transport to inspect the traffic to ensure safety at the railway and road crossings and report to the PM in May.
Mr. Binh asked the Ministry of Transport to instruct the Directorate for Roads of Vietnam and Vietnam Railway Authority to work with related agencies in provinces and cities that the railway runs through to carry out measure for increased safety.
The Ministry of Public Security and local police in provinces and cities that the railway runs through should enhance supervision and impose severe penalties on violations of traffic regulation especially the illegal lifting of barriers
On the same day, the Deputy PM ordered related departments and ministries to work out a plan for the safety of tourism and cultural activity in rivers. The Ministry of Transport should instruct the Directorate for the Vietnam Inland Waterways Administration (VIWA) and the VinaMarine to guide local administrations in working out ways to ensure traffic safety for tourism and cultural activities.
Concerning to river traffic accident in Ganh Hao River on April 6 in the Nghinh Ong (Whale Worshipping) Festival in the Mekong delta province of Bac Lieu’s Dong Hai District, the Deputy PM ordered the provincial People’s Committee to report the safety of the festival as well as verify the responsibility of related agencies involved in the accident.
Moreover, the local administration must learn the lesson from the accident to avoid the same tragedy in other festivals.
Local administration must ask residents to wear life-jackets when partaking the festival. Furthermore, the Agriculture and Rural Development and related transport agencies must forbid the use of fishing boat carrying people in festival.
