The high ranking delegation of HCMC led by secretary of the city Party Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan learned about Dutch drinking water and wastewater treatment techonology and the way to live with flood in Holland.
Much of the Netherlands is below sea level and major floods have occurred for hundreds of years, so over the centuries the Dutch have become expert at water management.
The low-lying country’s expertise and centuries of experience in battling water are expected to be valuable experiences and lessons for how HCMC to prevent flooding, cope with climate change and find water management and treatment solutions to achieve the sustainble developemnt goals.
The HCMC’s delegation previously visited a multifunctional combination dyke along the boulevard in Scheveningen and Nereda wastewater treatment plant in Utrecht.
On the same day, Secretary of HCMC Party Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan met deputy Mayor of Rotterdam, Arno Bonte.
He expressed his thanks to the Netherlands for the suport of the country and Rotterdam particularly, the Dutch Consulate General in HCMC in helping the Vietnam's southern economic hub prevent flood, cope with climate change and find water management and treatment solutions.
The Party’s leader also expected to learn about experience on water management, sea level rise, intensity of rainfall and the urban development plan developing a “Clean Tech City” on the water: Water City Rotterdam 2035.
