Thousands of young medical workers offered free services on May 19 under a program launched by the Communist Youth Union and the Vietnam Association of Young Physicians in Ho Chi Minh City.

Thousands of young medical workers offered free services on May 19 under a program launched by the Communist Youth Union and the Vietnam Association of Young Physicians in Ho Chi Minh City.

Altogether 5,000 young medical workers conducted examinations, health consultations, free drug issuance, reproductive health and family planning consultations as well as gave away gifts to workers in industrial parks and export processing zones and disadvantaged people, informed Nguyen Ba Tinh, General Secretary of the Vietnam Association of Young Physicians.

Around 70,000 residents received free medicines; 1,000 elderly people underwent free eye surgery; 10,000 people were provided cancer consultation; and 5,000 teachers of preschools and primary schools received first aid training. In addition, the medical workers donated 20,000 blood units.

On May 19, the Communist Youth Union opened a festival for community health in the Youth Cultural House.

70 physicians and nurses from hospitals in the City participated in the festival by offering their services, and providing free medicines to residents in Hiep Phuoc Commune in Nha Be District; Tan Kien Commune in Binh Chanh District; Tan Phu ward in District 7; Thanh An Coastal Commune in Can Gio District; and Districts 7, 8, 9, Tan Phu, Binh Thanh. They gave 235 gifts to orphanages, homeless people and families with old and feeble members.
