A charity auction of nine paper lantern designs featuring Chinese characters for good luck and good fortune attracted many enterprises and sponsors.

Nearly VND7 billion (USS$350,000) was raised from the auction at the Nghia An club-house in China town in Ho Chi Minh City on February 20.

The event was part of the activities marking the Tet Nguyen Tieu, the traditional cultural festival of the Chinese-Vietnamese community in District 5. Tet Nguyen Tieu is usually celebrated on the fifteenth day of the first month on the lunar calendar.

The festival had interesting cultural activities like musical performances, kylin and dragon dances, folk games, an exhibition of calligraphic paintings and a Chinese food fair.
