The anti-tobacco law that takes effect from May 1 will call for ban on public smoking in hospitals, schools, bus stations and will deal harshly with all violators.

The law has laid out strict regulations for health warnings on 50 percent of cigarettes packages imported into the country. These health warnings will have to be updated every two years.

Brand names should be written in Vietnamese and abide by the set regulations of the law, such as manufacturing and expiry date as well as quantity of cigarettes in a pack.

Images of health warnings must be clear and easy to understand, pertaining to the harmful effects of tobacco to smokers.
