A series of activities will be held during the 5-day book show, such as exchanges between writers, publishers and readers, exhibitions of books and photos of activities of the Vietnam Book Day in several years.
On the same day, a conference on reviewing 5 years after the launch of Vietnam Book Day which was approved in 2014 and it is scheduled to occur every year on April 21 was held on the same day by the Ministry of Communications and Information.
Attending at the event were Politburo member, Secretary of Party Central Committee (PCC) and Head of the PCC’s Commission for Communication and Education Vo Van Thuong; the PCC Secretary and President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee (VFFCC) Tran Thanh Man; and Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam.
According to the Ministry, the publishing industry has printed 160,000 book titles with 1.9 billion copies over the past 5 years, up 20 percent of the number of book titles and copies.
Minister of Information and Communication Nguyen Manh Hung said that various activities have been held in response to the Vietnam Book day, such as building libraries in schools and households, offering books as gifts on tet holidays and organizing annual national book awards.
He affirmed that the ministry will launched policies to build reading culture and hold activities, such as reading hour, book day, book fair to cultivate a love for reading among the community.
Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam thanked enterprises and publishing houses for their contribution in bringing books to rural and remote areas, especially border places, sea and islands.
He stressed the important role of book and raised the people’s awareness of book and reading as well as called on people to save time for reading habit.
