Alert to diseases after Tet holidays

According to the Ministry of Health, much traveling of holidaymakers during Tet holidays ( the Lunar New Year) between localities to localities for festival celebrations has résulted in the strong possibility of disease transmission especially respiratory ailments, flu, measles, whooping cough and chicken pox.

Additionally, the present weather is conducive to virus development, threatening to people’s health while the complicatedness of disease condition in other countries is highly likely to enter Vietnam too.
The Ministry of Health said no localities reported outbreaks of contagious ailment and death because of fatal díeases in the holidays. Nevertheless, Bach Mai hospital in Hanoi admitted two serious pneumonia people hailing from Hanoi and the northern province of Quang NInh with symptoms of cough, breathing problem, fever and pain in chest. Test results confirmed the duo were infected with A/H1N1 virus and flu type B.
Head of the Preventive Medicine Department Tran Dac Phu said that people should not ignore the disease because through surveillance of diseases on human including A/H3N2, A/H1N1 and flu type B. Moreover, it is winter to spring transition, poultry-to-human H5N1 transmission is highly likely especially in this time when demand of poultry is high.
Notwithstanding, in spite of no recorded outbreaks of contagious diseases in the Southeast Asian country, several localities countrywide have reported small outbreak of measles, dengue fever, chicken pox, mumps and 525hand-foot-and mouth cases without death.
Worse, 664 people experienced fever due to rash in some cities and provinces in the North and the South.
More than 2,640 cases of dengue fever have been reported; tragically, one death was reported in the southern province of Ba Ria – Vung Tau.
To prevent fatal contagious diseases, the Ministry advised people to regularly wash their hands with soaps and disinfectant substance when preparing food and cradling babies as well as eat boiled water and well-cooked food. People should keep away from eating disease or sick poultry.
Vaccination is needed in fighting against deadly contagious disease; accordingly, parents should take their children to nearby medical clinics for immunization, said the Ministry.
