While seven workers were repairing the Ba Dau Bridge on Monday noon in Binh Son District in the central province of Quang Ngai, the bridge suddenly gave way, collapsing into the river along with the workers and all their construction equipment.
So far two workers are still reported missing and one is said to be seriously injured.
Residents living nearby the bridge managed to rescue five of the workers, though one worker, Nguyen Hong Vu, was seriously injured and rushed to hospital for emergency treatment.
Two other workers, Truong Van Hoi, 22, hailing from Nui Thanh District in the central province of Quang Nam, and Nguyen Minh Quang, 32, from the central province of Binh Dinh, are still missing.
The 100 meter long Ba Dau Bridge links Binh Duong and Binh Thoi Communes of Binh Son District. It was constructed with the help of a benefactor from Ho Chi Minh City who undertook the task of selecting both the bridge design as well as the construction contractors.
