A group of voters from Ho Chi Minh City spoke out at a National Assembly meeting July 22, demanding that the city lower water and electricity prices they said were crippling everyday citizens.

The voters from districts 6, 8, Tan Binh, Tan Phu , Phu Nhuan and Binh Thanh were also upset about rampant power outages, that complaining recent blackouts had badly affected their businesses and health.
The residents also said they approved of the assembly’s rejection of a bullet train plan that would have linked HCMC and Hanoi.
Representatives Pham Phuong Thao, Tat Thanh Cang, Bui Hoang Danh, Tran Dong A, Nguyen Huy Can, Nguyen Van Be, Nguyen Viet Dung, Tran Hoang Tham, Nguyen Ngoc Hoa and Nguyen Thi Thu Cuc are now expected to hold regular meetings with voters to discuss their concerns.
Legislators Pham Phuong Thao, Tat Thanh Cang, Truong Minh Nhut, Le Thanh Binh and Ngo Minh Hong listened to voters in districts 4 and 9 on June 22. Matters raised included insuring motorbike helmet quality and the proposed establishment of a resettlement land fund.
Elsewhere in the city, assembly members Huynh Thanh Lap and Dang Ngoc Tung met with voters in Binh Tan District. People there complained about obstacles to the transfer of land use rights and cumbersome construction formalities chalked up to new zoning plans and high taxes.
