General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong and his wife yesterday had a warm meeting to welcome Japanese Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko in Hanoi capital on the occasion of their first state- level visit to Vietnam.

In a warm friendly home- like atmosphere, the party chief highlighted that the visit is considered as a special historical event to open a new development cooperation in the friendship relations between the two nations.

Emperor Akihito reviewed his earlier impressive meetings with the Vietnamese party chief in Japan in 2008 and 2015; and thanked the Party Chief and his wife for this warm friendly meeting.

Vietnam has always respected Vietnam-Japan relations and tried to deepen the friendship ties with the Japanese people. On behalf of the Party, State, Government of Vietnam, Mr. Trong thanked Japan’s great assistances for Vietnam in socio- economic development in previous years.

At the reception, both two sides discussed cultural exchange issues between two countries. Emperor Akihito expressed his impression at outstanding achievements of the Southeast Asian  and highly appreciated its contributions under the general target of peace.

Party Chief Trong and his wife sent also best health and happiness wishes to the emperor, empress and members of Japanese Royalty.

As schedule, Japanese Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko continue their visit to Hue Imperial Citadel, Phan Boi Chau Memorial Site and enjoy Nha Nhac- Vietnamese court music on the same day.
