Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index unexpectedly rose on March 30 although fuel prices climbed more than 10 percent last night.
The gauge of 283 companies and five mutual funds listed on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange recovered 0.47 percent, or 2.16 points, to close at 460.04 points.
Among the index members, 77 gained, 141 lost, while 70 remained unchanged.
Trading volume on the city bourse improved by 22 percent in volume and 25 percent in value over the previous trading session as 28 million shares changed hands at a value of VND668 billion.
Saigon Securities Inc. (SSI), the country’s largest brokerage, remained on the spot of most active share in volume with 1.66 million shares changing hands.
It was followed by Sai Gon Thuong Tin Joint Stock Commercial Bank or Sacombank (STB) with 1.4 million shares.
Hoa Phat Group Joint Stock Company (HPG) came in next with 766,270 shares traded.
Vinacafé Bienhoa Joint Stock Company (VCF) rebounded the daily maximum allowed limit of 5 percent to close at VND46,200.
Vincom Joint Stock Company (VIC) went up for three days in a row, adding up 4.8 percent to close at VND131,000.
Techno - Agricultural Supplying Joint Stock Company (TSC) curbed its three-day losing streak, reviving 4.79 percent to VND15,300.
Construction Joint Stock Copany No 5 (SC5) dropped for three straight days, eroding 5 percent to close at VND26,600.
Vien Dong Phamaceutical Joint Stock Company (DVD) and Da Nang Construction Building Materials & Cement Joint Stock Company (DXV) both declined 4.9 percent to close at VND13,600 and VND9,700 respectively.
Vietnam Sun Copporation (VNS) ended its four-day winning streak, depleting 4.88 percent to VND23,400.
The smaller in the north also continued to close down as the Hanoi’s HNX-Index shrank 0.5 percent, or 0.46 points, to close at 91.48 points. Trading volume dropped by half over the previous day as 30.43 million shares worth VND444.5 billion changed hands.
Meanwhile, the UPCoM-Index of unlisted shares adjusted 0.45 points to 37.28 points this morning. A total of 104,400 shares changed hands at a value of VND1 billion.
