Stocks on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange prolonged their losing streak to five consecutive trading sessions, dragging Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index to a 32 month low on December 12 on concerns over a possible capital withdrawal by foreign investors in 2012, and the end of the big four in market leading.
The gauge of 301 companies and five mutual funds listed on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange shortened 0.49 percent, or 1.86 points, to close week at 375.3 points.
Among the index members, 84 advanced, 147 retreated, while 75 remained unchanged.
Trading on the city bourse rose by 18 percent in volume, and 28 percent in value over the previous day as 37.72 million shares changed hands at a total value of VND561 billion.
Saigon Thuong Tin Joint Stock Commercial Bank or Sacombank (STB) won the spot of most active share in volume with 3.26 million shares changing hands.
Becamex Infrastructure Development Joint Stock Company (IJC) followed with 1.24 million shares.
Tan Tao Investment & Technology Joint Stock Company (ITA) came next with 1.05 million shares traded.
Viky Plastic Joint Stock Company (VKP) fell for four consecutive trading sessions, plummeting 10 percent to close at VND900.
Basa Joint Stock Company (BAS) extended its losing streak to five straight trading sessions, erasing 6.25 percent to VND1,500.
Post & Telecommunications Investment and Construction Joint Stock Company (PTC), Hamico Mineral Group (KSH), and Bac Giang Exploitable Mineral Joint Stock Company (BGM) all dropped 5 percent to VND5,700, VND11,400, and VND5,700 respectively.
Cuu Long Petro Urban Development & Investment Corporation (CCL) snapped its five-day losing run, retrieving 5 percent to close at VND8,400.
Saigon Thuong Tin Joint Stock Commercial Bank or Sacombank (STB) rallied the fifth day, growing 4.96 percent to VND14,800.
Electronics Communications Technology Investment Development Corporation (ELC) rebounded 4.95 percent to close at VND23,300.
Meanwhile, Hanoi’s HNX-Index of the smaller bourse in the north reduced 0.6 percent, or 0.37 points, to close at 61.36 points. Around 26.16 million shares changed hands at a value of VND224.9 billion, the lowest level in the past six trading sessions.
The UPCoM-Index of unlisted shares also ditched 0.67 percent, or 0.23 points, to 34.14 points at 1:56 pm Vietnamese time. A total of 106,133 shares changed hands at a value of VND821 million.
