Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index tumbled the second day, retreating to near 470 on May 6 as investors sold off shares to prevent losses.
The shares of 284 companies and five mutual funds listed on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange slumped 1.37 percent, or 6.58 points, to close at 472.71 points.
Of the index members, 95 climbed, 103 dropped, while 91 remained unchanged.
Trading volume on the city bourse was little higher over the previous trading session as 23.7 million shares changed hands at a value of VND794 billion, up by 50 percent.
Sai Gon Thuong Tin Joint Stock Commercial Bank or Sacombank (STB) was the most active share in volume with 928,620 shares changing hands.
Saigon Securities Inc. (SSI), the country’s largest brokerage, dropped to the second rank with 877,840 shares changing hands.
Transport Engineering Construction & Business Investment Joint Stock Company 584 (NTB) came next with 573,620 shares traded.
Godaco Seafood Joint Stock Company (AGD) crashed 33.1 percent to close at VND19,000 from VND28,400.
Long Giang Investment & Urban Development Joint Stock Company (LGL) shrank 5 percent to VND11,400.
South Logistics Joint Stock Company (STG) sank the second day, losing 4.98 percent to VND19,100.
Materials - Petroleum Joint Stock Company (COM) resumed its rising trend, gaining 5 percent to VND31,500.
Thong Nhat Rubber Joint Stock Company (TNC) reversed previous loss, edging up 4.92 percent to VND12,800.
Cadovimex Seafood Import-Export & Processing Joint Stock Company (CAD) curbed its three-day losing streak, closing up 4.88 percent to VND4,300.
The Hanoi’s HNX-Index of the smaller in the north made a contrast move, slightly rebounded 0.72 percent, or 0.59 points, to close at 82.69 points. Trading volume slightly dropped over the previous trading session as 21.6 million shares worth VND295 billion changed hands.
Meanwhile, the UPCoM-Index of unlisted shares inched up 0.33 points to 35.33 points this morning. A total of 81,420 shares changed hands at a value of VND940 million as of 11:15 am local time.
