Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index went down on weak demand on May 28 as investors were cautious.
The measure of 304 companies and five mutual funds listed on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange dipped 0.43 per cent, or 1.9 points, to close at 435.48 points with 155 gainers, 106 losers, and 48 stocks remaining unchanged.
Trading on the city bourse fell by 14 per cent in volume, and 26.5 per cent in value over the previous trading session as more than 66.81 million shares changed hands at a total value of VND951.31 billion.
Tan Tao Investment - Industry Corporation (ITA) was the most active share in volume with 3.82 million shares changing hands.
Saigon Securities Inc. (SSI), the country’s largest brokerage, tagged along with 3.11 million shares.
SACOM Development and Investment Corporation (SAM) ran after with 2.63 million shares traded.
Tay Bac Minerals Investment Joint Stock Company (KTB) slumped 5 per cent to close at VND9,500.
Thac Mo Hydro Power Joint Stock Company (TMP) curbed its three-day winning streak, losing 4.96 per cent to close at VND11,500.
Duc Thanh Wood Processing Joint Stock Company (GDT) sank 4.95 per cent to close at VND17,300.
Everpia Vietnam Joint Stock Company (EVE), Dong Nai Port Joint Stock Company (PDN), and Vinacafé Bienhoa Joint Stock Company (VCF) added up 5 per cent to close at VND23,100, VND21,000, and VND126,000 respectively.
Hoa Sen Group (HSG) emerged 4.97 per cent to close at VND19,000.
Dat Xanh Real Estate Service & Construction Corporation (DXG) rallied 4.92 per cent to close at VND12,800.
The VN30 Index - a free-float adjusted, market cap-weighted index of 30 stocks with the highest market value and liquidity on the exchange – tripped 0.83 points, or 0.16 per cent, to end at 513.44. Among its 30 members, 14 stocks rose, 11 dropped, and 5 closed unmoved.
Hanoi’s HNX-Index of the smaller bourse in the north shed 0.6 per cent, or 0.46 points, to close at 75.6 points with 108 advancers, 138 decliners, and 70 stocks treading water. Around 54.72 million shares changed hands at a total value of VND563.95 billion.
Meanwhile, the UPCoM-Index of unlisted shares stalled at 36.49 points. A total of 453,063 shares changed hands at VND3.23 billion.
