In the letter sent on June 17, Mr. Dam said that over the last 85 years, under the leadership of the Party and the association, Vietnam’s revolutionary journalists made great efforts towards liberation and reunification and has bolstered the nation’s building and protection.

Mr. Dam also expressed his belief that journalists will continue providing and recognizing outstanding displays of patriotism, as well maintaining their role as vanguard of the revolution’s cultural ideal.

In addition, he hoped that the journalists will strengthen their struggle against corruption, waste and hostile forces, to reinforce the national unity as well as to develop and protect the Republic of Vietnam.

In celebration of Journalism Day, the southern representative offices of the Press Department and the Ministry of Information and Communications June 17 held a seminar titled “Relationship between the press and enterprises.”

At the seminar, representatives of economic groups like Prudential and Nokia expressed their desire to continue travelling with press agencies in social charitable programs.

The businesses and representatives of press agencies also presented some solutions to coordinate how to best make use of resources in order to benefit both sides.

Tran The Tuyen, editor-in-chief of Sai Gon Giai Phong, said the press nowadays is not only an organ of the Party, State and political and social organizations, but also an information channel for residents to express their opinion about the Government’s polices.

Press agencies are no longer subsidized by the State and several of them operate independently.

To tighten and boost the relationship between the press and businesses, the State should improve regulations of journalism law and legal normative documents on advertisement and communications, Tuyen said.

Finally, he encouraged businesses to travel with the press to provide information in a timely fashion as well as inform the press about their activities and products.

The same day, Vietnam Television and the Vietnam Journalists Association organized the program, “Journalists - social responsibilities and citizen duties,” to help spectators, especially young people, clearly understand the importance journalism.
