Viet-Duc (Viet-German) Hospital in Hanoi yesterday said that its surgeons have performed a rare kidney transplant.
20 year old patient from the northern province of Bac Giang was taken to the hospital for emergency treatment after traffic accident. After examination, doctors diagnosed that the patient suffered abdominal injuries.
However, during carrying out CT scan, doctors discovered the patient’s right kidney was not damaged yet it did not penetrate the drug. This is a form of injury at renal vein causing kidney stop working.
Accordingly, surgeons performed a surgery soon to save the kidney. When touching the kidney, doctors saw one part of the kidney has turned black without injury; accordingly surgeons cut off the kidney and washed it with special substance. After 30 minutes, the kidney recovered its normal color and surgeons transplanted on the patients.
After only 2 minute, the kidney worked normally and luckily, the patient needs not to take drug for graft rejection
Doctors said that this is a rare case in medicine. If the patient arrived in medical facilities early than eight hours after the accident, transplant would be performed better.
