The program "Cows for the Poor" August 14 donated 50 first breed cows to disadvantaged households in border communes Thanh Loa and Bao Lam of the northern province of Lang Son.
From June to September, 2014, the program "Cows for the Poor" aiming to reduce poverty in local border areas gave cows to meager-income families in border gate provinces in the north such as Cao bang, Lang Son, Quang Ninh, Ha Giang, Lao Cai, Lai Chau, Dien Bien, Son La, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An and Yen Bai provinces. The fund for buying cow is taken from mobile development services of Viettel Corporation.
Through study, it needs 36,000 cows to give disadvantaged families. It is estimated that 24,000 cows will be given in the first phase.
Participating in the granting ceremony, President Truong Tan Sang said that for past years, the government and the Party have had programs to reduce poverty effectively. He hailed the "Cows for the Poor" initiative, saying it would help improve living standards. As people in the border gate provinces are living in poorest districts of the country, it needs more attention of all sectors.
