Vietnamese H1N1 vaccine ready for testing

Vaccine and Bio-Technology Products Co. No. 1 is the first company in Vietnam to produce commercial batches of H1N1 vaccine ready for testing.

Dr. Nguyen Thu Van, director of the vaccine manufacturer, announced the news saying they had used Vero cell technology to develop the vaccine.

If the samples pass testing by National Institute for Control of Vaccine and Biologicals (NICVB) the company will start production of 2 million vaccinations a year.

Dr. Truong Quoc Cuong, head of the Drug Administration Department, said concerned agencies are testing the Arepanrix H1N1 vaccine made by GlaxoSmithKline, which WHO supplied free to Vietnam.

If the tests are satisfactory, around 1.1 million Vietnamese people, especially high risk groups such as pregnant women, medical workers and people with chronic diseases will receive free vaccination shots.
