Vietnam buys 50,000 tons of rice for reserve

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has instructed the Ministry of Finance to add 50,000 tons of rice to the 2010 national food reserves, using the central provision in 2009.

This addition is not only to ensure the national reserves but also to increase rice prices on the market.

Prime Minister also instructed that VND35.2 billion be spent on storing, preservation and repairing of the warehouse.

Earlier, the Vietnam Food Association on February 25 ordered 30 companies to stockpile 1 million tons of rice to stabilize prices before farmers in Mekong Delta harvest the winter-spring crop.
