According to the Southern Regional Hydro Meteorological Forecasting Centre, Ho Chi Minh City is facing an unusual rise in high tide, with levels rising to the highest in a dry season in several years.
Over the last two days, tide levels reached about 1.46-1.48 metres at the Phu An and Nha Be Stations on the Saigon River.
Tide levels are also expected to remain high at Phu An Station for the next few days.
High tide on Tuesday caused flooding along some roads and low lying areas of the city like Huynh Tan Phat and Nguyen Thi Thap Streets in District 7; Luong Dinh Cua Street in District 2; and Ngo Tat To Street in Binh Thanh District, affecting traffic and daily activities of local residents.
The City Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention has proposed to relevant departments, chairmen of people’s committees in Thu Duc, Binh Thanh, Go Vap, Binh Chanh, Cu Chi and Hoc Mon Districts to inspect vulnerable spots and prepare in advance to cope with breaches along dykes so as to minimise damage.
